Simple Rustic Fall in Our Dining Room

Fall has arrived and except for a few warmer than normal days we are noticing the change to cooler mornings and evenings.

Now that I am back to work after the summer, and the guys are back to school, my free time is more limited. I have been slowly adding some Fall touches to our home and got a chance to snap a few photos late this afternoon in our dining room.

On the farmhouse table I layered an off-white check runner over the white gathered edge table runner. The black toolbox used as a centrepiece is filled with a wooden berry garland and white pillar candles wrapped in birch bark. The toolbox was a yard sale gift from my sister-in-law. I painted it black and added the wood stars a few years ago.

Simple, rustic and easy to move when we have company for dinner. The best part is that it took about 15 minutes to pull together using items we already had. I hope to share more of the simple changes to our home for Fall soon. I'm off to walk our dog with my sister and niece, and it is cool enough for jeans and a hoody -one of my favourite parts of Fall. Do you go all out for Fall decorating or are you keeping it simple?

  2. I love your tool box Elizabeth. It looks great and so versatile. I have decorated for fall too and you can see my post about it today. I hope you pop over. It was really cool here today at 9 and only 7 for tomorrow! I'm glad it's going to be a bit warmer in a few days as I'm not ready for the cold weather yet. Happy Fall to you!

  4. I love this, very simple but pretty. Elegant really. I have decided to keep my Fall decorations very simple with just a runner and candle holder on the dining table and a vignette on the hall table.

  9. The tool box is perfect for your farmhouse style. I love the way you decorate with simplistic charm, Elizabeth. Although you didn't use a lot of pieces in your arrangement,it still makes quite a statement on your Fall table. Perfect!

  12. Elizabeth, I see tooboxes when I'm out flea marketing or antiquing and never think to buy them because I couldn't envision a "use". Seeing what you did with yours made me smack my head (!) and say "well of course, how brilliant is that!" -- it's gorgeous!

  17. That is such a great centerpiece idea! I love those oversized tool caddies used that way. It has been cooler in the evenings here as well, which is nice. Our days are still very warm though. I will probably bring out some Fall décor in October.

  19. I love your centerpiece! The weather is actually starting to cool down in Phoenix too, so I'm definitely more inspired to start decorating for fall now. It's so hard to get into the fall spirit when it's 100 degrees outside!
