Grey and Black Painted Pine Benches

I love simple benches and just finished painting two solid pine pieces to add to our home.

I'm still working on changing some things in our basement guest suite and part of the plan is to lighten the walls and add more grey and black pieces. The accents colours will be my favourite blues and turquoises just like this aqua Crown canning jar. The walls in the seating/kitchen area of the guest suite are currently beige and my plan is to lighten them with white and a light grey (but I've got to paint two bathrooms first!) So for today I took photos in our main kitchen where there is lots of natural light.

These solid little benches could be used in any room in our home, but I have a feeling they will make an appearance in the TV area down there. I love how rustic and chunky they are.

The benches were $5 each from a local woodworker having a retirement sale on unfinished pine pieces (only the smallest one is shown in the photo above.)

The grey is Americana Neutral Grey craft paint ($1) and the black is a sample pot of Martha Stewart Francesca (also $1.) I bought some Minwax gel stain in Early American ($7) and already had the Minwax paste wax. I only used one coat of paint on each and distressed the edges with sandpaper so they would look slightly worn.

Totally simple pieces and so my style! The updates to the guest suite won't happen overnight but I am really liking the changes I am making so far.

  1. I love those benches. When all is done here I would love to find one for our home. Sometimes simple is just what one needs to show off something special.
