Soup, Stew and Biscuits

I am back to work tomorrow after being off all summer so I spent some time today cooking.

I made some beef stew and 3 dozen tea biscuits for a quick dinner later in the week and a few to take for lunches. My boys inhale the baking powder biscuits but they will not eat stew -way too picky eaters. Hopefully they will outgrow this.

I also made broccoli soup for the first time (and yes I am 47 and asking myself what took so long.) It was delicious! The batch made enough for my husband and I to eat today, and more to freeze for lunches. Luckily I am home most days just after 3 pm and my husband cooks too, but it was nice to add some more jars to the freezer. After making 60+ jars of jam this summer, I am getting low on jars and reuse pasta sauce mason jars. What is your favourite food for the freezer?

  1. Yummy soup and stew and biscuits.
Enjoy your first day back tomorrow. I've been retired for well over a year now so don't have to worry about those lunches for back to school.

  2. Oh yes, broccoli soup!! Delicious...
My favourite food to freeze is anything tomato...stewed, dried, spaghetti sauce, salsa, etc.
I have had a slower summer at work this year, the students worked most of the shifts and I got to stay home & play. But, back to 9 hour days, 5 days a week tomorrow.

  3. great idea on freezing soup in portions jars! We only have the freezer/fridge combo...so not much freezing prepared meals here...

  4. That beef stew looks delicious, as does the biscuits! Can you believe I'm 46 and have never eaten broccoli soup?

  5. Do you freeze in the glass jars? Don't they crack?
    Yum broccoli anything :-)
I freeze a lot of tomato based foods, sauces and so on. Also chicken dishes without potatoes, and stock.

  7. Gosh, you don't have bad work hours! That's such a great idea to make food in advance and freeze it. I don't ever think to do that, but we have the good fortune of knowing someone who does. They sell it to my inlaws and then they share it with us. I'm talking about homemade vegetable soup. She pours it in the ziploc plastic containers and freezes it. We just had some tonight as a matter of fact!

  10. Because I don't work, I don't put meals or lunch foods in the freezer, but I did put several jars of Crabapple butter in the freezer.

  13. OK, I am all caught up. Yes as you can see I had to read a ways back to do it, but you are worth it! So now that my coffee is gone and I want to go paint my pine hutch and put curtains in my bathroom and make biscuits and broccoli soup... I'll just say I hope you have a darn good day!
