Fall in Our Living Room

When I shared the plaid flannel pillow I sewed earlier this week, I said I would share photos of our Fall living room. I like our Fall decor to be simple and neutral with lots of texture.

I added a wire basket filled with pinecones to the $10 wood dresser

The ironstone pitcher, platter and hydrangeas stayed and I added a large pinecone. The little grey tote I painted is still filled with extra Fall scented votives and now has a wood star and wire garland wrapped around it.

Two years ago I made the plaid pieced throw using lovely and soft flannels in tans, creams, and greys. I also made a little table runner using smaller squares and placed it on the bench we are using as a coffee table for the time being.

This year I used more leftover fabric to make a simple bunting.

The flannel is cut into 4 1/2" squares and then folded into triangles. I stitched a hem about 1/2" from the fold to slip twine through.

Lots of neutrals in our living room and I am really enjoying how it looks. I would love to be able to afford a nice rug but not right now. The wall gallery needs some work, and yes that roman blind is STILL not up but this weekend is free from fairs so hopefully we can get to it.

I found this really sturdy and large basket at the local thrift store for $5. It is huge and is way bigger than it looks in this photo. For now it is holding two vintage crocheted tablecloths but I can see lots of quilts and blankets for snuggling being stored in here. Hoping you enjoyed a little 'visit' in our living room where I love to spend time visiting with family, reading or doing needlework (we have a TV in our family room and a basement TV room so none in this room.) I hope you enjoy this lovely Fall weekend.

  1. Your living room looks lovely in lots of shades of browns, beiges and neutrals. The basket and dresser were a great find at great prices. I love the added touch of the bunting. I started to crochet some bunting but I much prefer the fabric one you made.

  2. I just loooooove all those fabrics together! After about the 100th time of looking at your coffee table bench, I'm realizing how super cute it is and now I'm wondering how quickly I can get Chris to build me one. :) Probably not very quickly at all!

  12. Your l/r looks so cozy and welcoming. Could sit back to visit, good for you no tv in that room. You have inspired me to make a pillow and sofa cozy to keep me warm with flannel.
I have some flannel but not sure it's in colors I'd want to make for our living room. Will have to go digging to see. I have a fuzzy blanket I use to cover myself in winter so think I might make a cover for it out of flannel. So glad I saw this post.
I love to sew at at this time of year especially, usually new pillow covers for the Fall then Winter. I buy pillows at thrift stores, wash them good when I get them home then make pillow covers for them. All I have to do is take pillow covers off to launder or change for the season. Thx for great inspiration.

I hope you do not mind if I make one of my own? It is just the right simple look I want and I was looking at one earlier today which I am glad I did not buy...

  24. Love the big basket! I scored one similar to this on the side of the road a while back - but it is outside holding my gardening gloves and tools... hmmm you have me thinking I might clean it up and bring it into my living room, too.

    Thanks for the inspiration!
