Fresh Flowers in Our Living Room

I arranged some fresh cut flowers in our living room today so I thought I would share a few updated photos.

Our living room is at the front of our home, and it receives the least amount of natural light. The walls are Ben Moore Cotton Balls. I am enjoying the light sheers but I keep toying with bringing back my blue paisley curtains for some colour.

The $10 dresser I picked up is still a favourite piece and I'm looking forward to being able to change the accessories as the mood strikes. The burlap Wrangler tote bag in the corner holds my current crocheted afghan work in progress. Still looking for a larger mirror and I would love to replace or update the lampshade on the dresser.

I added an assortment of white roses to the French Bead pitcher on the dresser.

Orange and yellow are not colours I would normally choose but I really like how the glads, roses and carnations look mixed together.

Our home is a work in progress and our living room is no exception. We still need to hang the wood roman blind that matches the one in the dining room opposite. I removed some frames from the wall gallery because I just couldn't get it to work. The frames are a bit crooked but this wall gallery still needs worked on.

Below is a photo from last year showing the blue paisley curtains.

We have the wood roman blinds, but do you think it would look better with just the blind and white sheers, or with the blind and the blue paisley? I have extra blue paisley fabric that I could make pillows with. Lastly, and the one I like the best would be to add a neutral curtain like a neutral drop cloth. I would love to know what you think!

Also, our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Hurricane Isaac.

  2. I love how your room looks with the white shears. I like the lightness of the white mixed with the rusticness of the leather sofa. Your room will look darker if you use the blue draperies and you mentioned that the room doesn't get that much light. I love your $10 dresser in there! What a score! The whole room looks great and the flowers are a nice pop of color in the middle.

  3. Pretty and comfy room, Elizabeth. Love the addition of flowers to any room. Not sure about the blue curtains. The woven blinds will look fabulous and may look nice with just the sheers since it looks like the room is mostly brown and white.

  4. Hi Elizabeth. Your living room is looking great. I love the pop of orange and yellow in the flowers. I also think your sheers are perfect and that the woven blind will add a touch of depth to the window without making it dark as the blue drapes would. The dresser is a great find. Maybe you could do some layering of photos or mirrors on it. Pops of colour like turquoise and orange are great for fall too. You're headed in the right direction. Blessings, Pamela

  5. I like both curtains. Perhaps you could do blue in the winter and switch them out to white in the summer..I like the ones you have they are light and airy.

  7. It is lovely! I agree with Razmataz, I loooove sheers in the spring and summer, but when cooler weather comes, I switch them with something that is a bit cozier. I love the idea of the drop cloth drapery, it would be lovely with the wood blind, and cozy when the cold winds blow.

  8. I would go with the wood roman blinds and the drop cloth curtains! ...I have those exact blinds and I made curatins from dropcloth over a year ago! Looks beautiful (to me), and the dropcloth will give that extra layer to keep the light out when needed.

  9. I think razmataz has the right idea....do both and make it seasonal.

  10. I LOVE the pop of orange flowers in that room! warm & inviting! the colors go well together-love the dresser too! I really liked what I saw then as I scrolled down and saw the blue (which I normally love blue) I thought that it didn't look as nice as with the shears. (just my opinion!) :)

  12. This is such a beautiful room! I love the contrast of the leather sofa with the lighter fabrics and it is just so warm and welcoming. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Inspiration Friday!
