From Weather Worn to Fresh Grey

This past week I worked on two little tables that were damaged by sun and rain all summer.

Waiting for some sunshine to take photos this week didn't work out so I went ahead and took these photos late this afternoon (lamps required at 3 pm, yuck!)

I really liked the look of these little rattan and iron tables ($5 each at a yard sale in May) but I left them outdoors over the summer and the weather was really rough on them. They started like this:

They were probably meant for a sun porch or covered patio, not full on sun and rain exposure. Oops!

I decided to take them apart and spray the wrought iron legs with Krylon satin black spray paint. I used a stiff brush to scrape off the chipping and peeling finish from the rattan. I was going to try a stain, but I thought it might look too patchy. I ended up giving the top and lower shelves a coat of mistint grey Behr Paint and Primer in One. Some spray sealer should protect them enough for indoor use.

I prefer the original finish, but the grey gives them a fresh start. The tables are currently in our living room, but may be switched out to the basement guest bedroom as night tables. Hoping you are having a great week!

  1. I really like how the side tables turned out. Nothing a fresh coat of paint can't fix:)

  2. you are so handy. like the tables. the weather is suppose to get really cool here this weekend. i rather enjoy the 70's during the day & 40's at night that we have been having around here. why must things change ... when it is just so perfect. (:

  3. Those are sweet tables and I like the fresh new look you gave them! Have a great week.

  4. You did a great job revamping the tables. I love moving things around in my home too.

  5. Wonderful redo Elizabeth!

We've had a couple of rainy cool days and I had to use lights for photos today too. Oh well, I knew this weather had to happen since the Cards got in the series and the first game is here tomorrow night.LOL

  7. Your tables are lovely! I love them now in grey and black.
    Hugs, Cindy

  8. The tables look great! I can't believe one summer weathered them so much! It's nice that you could salvage them with a bit of paint and probably a lot of elbow grease!

  9. The grey really did a great job of freshening up the tables, they look great. Don't you just love having to turn the lights on during the day...gah, I'm sick of the dreary days already!

  10. They turned out really great!

We have had a lot of rain since mid August...each week it seems that we get several days of rain...so I understand your dark and gloomy sky.

  11. I like this look for the tables, they have an industrial look to them now. Good job!

  12. i think i like them better now! great job : )

  14. Hi Elizabeth,

What a great makeover! Those tables turned out great! I like the new colour. The table lamps are just gorgeous... I know what you mean about having the lights on in the early afternoon...!
Have a great weekend, hopefully the sun will come out!
