Moving Backwards

Instead of making progress on our living room redo, I feel like I am moving backwards. Stalled. At a standstill.

I made a bit of progress.

But then I got frustrated. I sold this pine cabinet this week because it just seemed too short and small for this wall. We use this room to read, visit and relax (no TV) and I was trying to add a library, but the hutch was just too small.

I'm still searching for a little table to paint for the corner.

And now I may need to look for bookcases (or IKEA Billy bookcases?) too. So I am officially moving backwards in finishing this room!

I'm really glad today is my last day of work for the summer. I need to step back and gather some inspiration and ideas. Take some time to make a plan. The leather sofa and white walls make me happy, so I'll just have to go from there. Do you have a room that you just don't know what to do with?

  1. Sometimes things just require patience!! In the end...the right piece of furniture will just "come" to you!!! I think your living room looks lovely already:)

ps...i'm having a little give-away on my blog! Stop on over if you get a minute:)

  2. I feel like you maybe need a focal point in this room. It's hard for us who don't have fireplaces to figure out what that is. Maybe a strong piece of art? Also, my parents bought the billy bookcases and built them in and they looked amazing, so that's definitely a good option.

  3. Ha! Some days it feels like EVERY room! I agree with the above comment... a focal point may be what you need... perhaps those big bookcases my fit that idea.

Can't wait to see what you do here... and lucky you to be "off" for the summer!

  4. Sometimes it's hard to take our vision and make it a reality, isn't it. I find it difficult, anyway. I wish you all the best, some down time and inspiration are probably all you need.
I love my Billy bookcase, it's large and roomy and holds LOTS of books. We have about 200 books in ours.

  5. I've had a few makeovers like that, lately I feel like I haven't finished anything and with an open concept home that can get discouraging.
I look forward to seeing the bookcases!

  6. I have so many rooms like that!! Every single room is in a state of unfinished-ness.

I think your room is coming along nicely. It will come together. Just give it time!! :)
