My Design Style

I keep coming back to this magazine article I tore from an old issue of Country Home. It has been in my inspiration binder for several years and is hands down my favourite.
I admire many decorating styles, try out a few in our home, moving things here and there, but I always come back to this when I think of how I want our home to look. Prairie Pretty they called it. Rugged and Romantic. Quilts, ticking, eyelet, lace, leather, painted wood, white curtains, metal, galvanized, browns and tans, blues, white.  Rugged sturdy denim and romantic lacy cottons. I love all the fabrics.
I don't necessarily want to copy this bedroom, but I want to incorporate more of these textures, fabrics and materials that I love, into our home. Adding more of these elements and this feeling to our 12 year old home in a suburb. When buying something new or redoing a bargain find, I have been trying to keep these two photos in mind.  Add in some antique pine country pieces, some painted pieces, agricultural elements (cows, horses, barns), a lake, and this is my style.  I admire many styles, but this is the design style I want for our home. Do you have a design file of magazine tearouts or computer files of favourite images? What name would you give to this style I am struggling to label?

I'm linking to Cheap Chic Home Fabric Fun Thursday no. 16. Stop by for some fabric inspiration.

  1. I think "Prairie Country" might be a good name for this pretty style. Yes, I have a lot of magazine tear-outs before all the good magazines went kaput. If you saw my tear-outs, you would see exactly what I am drawn to. Isn't it something how we all have a clear vision of what we personally want in our homes? But the vision in my head and the reality of my life are still very far apart!

  2. Elizabeth ... love your prairie country style inspiration. Rugged and comfortable with a softer edge.

I could just sink into that bed ... but with the boots ready for action.

  3. Maybe a cross of rustic-prairie country? I like the different textures, things like that get lost on me unless someone points it out. I tip my hat to you and by the time I'm ready to seriously decorate you'll have taught me everything I know. : )

I have started keeping photos on file in my email acct..lots of storage there and I don't have to worry about someone throwing it out in error.

  7. I love that name Prairie Pretty. It does kind of describe my style too. I think I might be like a Modern Cottage or Eclectic Farmhouse too. I like a lot of styles but they are all related really.

  8. Or Prairie Cottage!
The bed is just beautiful--I love the ticking bedskirt! Yum!
    And the white floor.
When you finish the room, you are going to rent it out as a B&B room, right?

  9. Hello Elizabeth: I just discovered your blog and have had a very pleasant visit with you. Our bedroom floor (we have an old bungalow) needs refinishing and I'd love to do it white. My husband is not totally onboard but we are discussing the possibility. We've enjoyed many visits to your area--wonderful people!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  12. Oh wow - that is a great photo! I think I'd love to fall asleep in that bed every night. And mattress ticking gets me every time.

  13. I, too, think "Prairie Pretty" fits the style you describe and show. Sturdy and useful, yet soft and pampering at the same time~just a touch of fabrics to soften the hard iron bed, and wooden floors, while comforting with the contrasting simplicity and muted colors making it restful, indeed.I love it.

Yes, I have an idea file. I really miss Country Home and Cottage Living.

  16. I don't know what you call it, but I LOVE it! The white plank flooring, the eyelet bedskirt, the ticking (I LOOOVE TICKING) - it's so homey and soothing. GORGEOUS! I have a big folder full of tear pages too and a huge file on the computer too. I'd have to have about five houses to do everything I want to do - along with some rich person's checkbook. HA!

  17. Hi Elizabeth. I'm so glad you could link up today (and thank you so much for visiting some of the other links, you're such a polite blogger!) You might want to link up with Cottage Instincts, too. She's doing and blue and brown theme link party. Not only could you 'rock' this style, you already do. Hugs & blessings my friend.
