Yardsale Saturday Treasures

Thanks to Rhoda for hosting Today's Thrifty Treasures @ Southern Hospitality http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/.
This was the second Saturday of Garage Sales in our area. After a long cold winter I was happy to scout out the few offered in this still cool weather. The first week I scored some great little pop up picnic tables in carry-cases, photos to follow. From the same neighbour I was given a great pine coffee table, for free at the end of the sale, he didn't want to have to haul it away and offered it to us. I have plans to sand and paint it, photos also to follow.

This week I picked up a $3 mirror, an Inspector Gadget movie, crystal vase, and terra cotta plant pot for 50 cents each. Not bad for only three garage sales in our town.

I am really hoping we have a dry and warmer Saturday this week. I am hoping to see a lot more yard sales pop up in the next few weeks, too. Visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/ to check out more great yard sale finds.

Spring flowers to brighten our home and Pink Saturday

My friend of many years, whom I also work with, dropped off this beautiful plant for my birthday this weekend. The photo does not do the pink justice. It is actually a very deep and stunning shade. I'm guessing it is a hydrangea and hoping I can plant it in the garden when the weather warms up. For now it is adding a beautiful dose of spring to our kitchen. Thanks Ann!

I will also attempt to link this to Pink Saturday, my first!, at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Hopefully it will work for me:)

Longing for summer and our great beaches.

We live in Southern Ontario, Canada and love the outdoors. The great sunshine we have enjoyed this past week has contributed to my longing for summer (even though it is still cool here). I grew up camping and visiting cottages (or camps as many vacation homes are called in Northern Ontario) all around our great province. Our country has hundreds of national and provincial parks, as well as many great vacation destinations.

We wanted our children to have these experiences and began to camp when the kids were small. Some of the great beaches of Ontario are where I get inspiration for decorating our home. Yes, we do have cold and snowy winters, but I think that is one of the reasons I so look forward to and appreciate summer. Today, I would like to share three of our great Ontario beach destinations with you.

One of our favourite spots for a day trip with the cousins, aunt and uncle, some lawnchairs and a cooler is Wasaga Beach on beautiful Nottawasaga Bay, part of Georgian Bay. Wasaga Beach is the longest fresh water beach in the world. White sandy beaches stretching for 14 km (8.7 miles). We are very fortunate to take a less busy weekday and make a day of it at Wasaga.

Last year we discovered The Pinery Provincial Park at Grand Bend on beautiful Lake Huron. A great spot for camping!

Famous for it's beach and activity, further north on Lake Huron is Sauble Beach. Sauble is a busy, hopping place each summer.

One of the things I enjoy about other blogs, besides decorating of course, is sharing in the beauty of your local areas and travels. I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of our favourites. Thanks for stopping by.

Restoration Hardware Lamps -the look for less

I have admired these lamps at Restoration Hardware for some time. The $369 US each price tag was way way out of our budget.

While shopping at HomeSense last month I came across a pair of very similar lamps. They were on clearance marked down to $35 each including the shades. The finial is missing but I am keeping an eye out for some. Here they are:

Some detail pics:

I am very happy with the lamps and we are using them in our bedroom at present. I am in the process of painting our bedroom, hall and stairway right now and the nighttables are looking different than in the photos. I will post more when I finish. Thanks for stopping by! I do love a bargain.
